About the museum
The museum of sacred art owes its origins to Canon Jean Marilier, who from 1970 gathered endangered works from churches in the Côte-d'Or. The City of Dijon had bought the church of Sainte-Anne in 1950; built between 1699 and 1708, it became in 1975 the place chosen to house these objects.
After a preliminary exhibition in 1979, the museum opened permanently in June 1980. Since 1993 it has been attached to the Musée de la Vie bourguignonne, housed in the neighboring Bernardine convent.
The collections bring together Catholic liturgical objects from Burgundy from the 12th to the 19th century: sculptures, paintings, furniture, objects of worship, relics, as well as vestments and liturgical ornaments kept in the galleries. The museum also explores the daily life of women's religious communities. It has been closed for works since January 2024.
