About the museum
The history and archaeology museum is a municipal museum on the second floor of the AgorAlp in Alpe d’Huez. It offers three permanent exhibitions with free admission.
The exhibition “Le spectacle de la montagne” tells the history and the tourist and architectural development of the resort, located at 1,850 m on a plateau overlooked by the Grandes Rousses. Four immersive cubes, a touch table, an interactive kiosk, INA films and a youth area trace the history of skiing since the 1920s, the major sporting events and the resort's adaptations to the climate.
The Brandes exhibition presents the excavations at the Brandes site, a silver mine of the Dauphins from the 12th to the 14th century, the highest mining village in Europe of that period. A third exhibition recounts the summer of 1944 and the Oisans maquis.
