About the museum
The Lourdes wax museum is located on rue de la Grotte, in the heart of the town and close to the sanctuaries. According to the museum, it has been bringing the great moments of Christianity to life for about fifty years and claims more than three million visitors since its creation.
The wax figures were made by the artistic teams of the Musée Grévin in Paris, while the costumes are sewn by the museum's own seamstresses. Around one hundred life-size figures make up some twenty scenes across five floors.
The first floor is devoted to the life of Bernadette Soubirous: the apparitions of the Virgin, her interrogation, her trials and the young girl's death. From the second to the fifth floor, the scenes tell the life of Jesus, from the Nativity to the Ascension, including Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper. One room also presents great figures of the contemporary Church, and the top floor offers a panoramic view over Lourdes, the sanctuaries and the castle fortress, as well as a model of the town in 1858.
