About the museum
The newspaper L'Indépendant du Louhannais et du Jura ceased publication in 1984. The Écomusée de la Bresse bourguignonne then created a museum in Louhans to show how a newspaper was made. The machines were kept in working order: linotype machines, rotary press and printing presses.
The museum describes itself as the only French example of a complete press workshop preserved with hot-metal typesetting. The newspaper's archives may be consulted free of charge during opening hours, on prior written request.
The museum occupies the same building as the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Louhans, on rue des Dôdanes, with separate ticketing and management (Écomusée). It has been closed since August 18, 2026 for renovation and accessibility work on the building; reopening is announced for 2027.
