About the museum
The Ferme du Champ bressan is a group of typical farm buildings from southern Bresse, listed as a historic monument. It houses a “cheminée sarrasine” (Saracen-style chimney), one of the last three still preserved in Burgundy. The site results from the merger of two former museums in Romenay: the Musée du terroir, opened as early as 1930, and the Musée de la volaille, created in 1984 from collections gathered by the Amis du vieux Romenay association.
Both museums received the “Musée de France” label. In the early 2000s the town asked the conservation of the Écomusée de la Bresse bourguignonne to take on its scientific management, and an agreement was signed in 2002. The farm has belonged to the town since 1994; the current museum opened in May 2010.
The route recreates complete interiors and tells the story of the farm and the daily life of its inhabitants around 1937. A visioguide accompanies the visit.
