About the museum
The Musée de la carte postale in Mortagne-sur-Gironde was created in 2003 on the initiative of Jean-Pierre Cottet and the association L'Embarcadère. It is housed in the port's former landing stage, on the banks of the Gironde estuary.
The collection brings together about 300 postcard reproductions showing views of the town, mainly from the 19th century. They trace the development of the town, its shops, inhabitants and events, such as the stages of the restoration of the Saint-Étienne church.
