About the museum
The museum is run by the Société des Amis de Talmont, an association founded in 1966. It first toured from home to home, then from 1976 was housed in the village’s former school, which taught children until 1970. Its collections come from donations and the collection of old objects, supplemented by commissioned works such as paintings and models.
The local history museum illustrates Talmont from prehistory to the present day, with Neolithic flint tools and Bronze Age remains. The traditional estuary fishing museum, set up in 1994 under the former shelter, displays fishing gear, boat models, an authentic yole, a life-size sturgeon model and a reconstruction of a craft rope-making machine. A 1970 classroom has been recreated in part of the large hall.
A film about Talmont is screened in the museum. An activity booklet allows children to visit the museum by answering questions.
