About the museum

The Musée de la faïence in Rarécourt is housed in a fortified house rebuilt in gaize stone during the 17th and 18th centuries. The building was home to the Pimodan family, then a dairy, before it opened as a private museum in 1969, run by its owner.

The collections include more than 800 pieces of faience and pottery from the Argonne workshops of Waly, Lavoye, Salvange, Rarécourt, Froidos and Les Islettes. Also on display are old postcards of the Argonne, archaeological objects, coins, parchments and autographs from the Revolutionary period, including those of Marie-Antoinette and Louis XVI.

The visit is guided and lasts about 1 hr 15 min.
