About the museum

The museum occupies two rooms inside the Auberge de Larina, in the heart of the village of Annoisin-Chatelans. It presents the local history linked to working the lauze, the golden stone emblematic of the Isle-Crémieu, and the know-how that shaped the landscapes and houses of the plateau.

The first room shows the geology of the stone, the quarrying work and the tools used, with testimonies from the period when the quarries were in full swing. The second room explains the techniques of lauze roofing, illustrated by examples of local architecture, such as the roof timbers of the Crémieu market halls.
