About the museum
The Musée de la terre ardéchoise is a Musée de France (label obtained in 2003) located in Privas, in the buildings of the former feudal castle. The site has had very varied uses since the 17th century: convent of the Récollets until the Revolution, courthouse, prison, barracks, powder magazine, college in the 19th century, then state lycée until 1967.
The renovated buildings housed the municipal museum, inaugurated in November 1986, as well as the municipal music school and the house of associations. The collections cover natural sciences and history.
