About the museum

The petrography and mineralogy museum belongs to the scientific heritage of the Université de Bretagne Occidentale and is located in the Faculty of Science and Technology in Brest, room D019. Its collections serve as active resources for teaching and research, and also as historical archives, some of them irreplaceable.

The museum presents several hundred samples in wall-mounted and sloping cases. It brings together two private collections donated to the faculty: the Bernicot mineral collection, partly inventoried by the Navy's mineralogy club under a 2012 agreement, and the Louis Chauris collection of samples from Brittany, together with the publications related to it. A teaching collection of samples representative of the main rock and mineral families is also on show.
