About the museum
The municipal museum has borne the name of Paul Lafran since March 10, 2000, in tribute to the founding president of the association “Amis du Vieux Saint-Chamas.” It has been housed since 1951 in the former 17th-century town hall in the old village.
Most objects come from donations or from forty years of archaeological excavations carried out by Paul Lafran and his team. At the entrance, a late 19th-century Arlésienne costume is on display; other pieces, clothing, ribbons, everyday objects and religious documents show the village's links with the Arles region. A small room at the back houses archaeological finds, but it is not currently open to visitors.
On the second floor, a 17th-century room with painted beams presents 19th-century ex-votos from the chapel of Notre-Dame de Miséricorde, along with works by contemporary artists inspired by Saint-Chamas, including P. Ambrogiani and René Seyssaud.
