About the museum
The Vierzon museum is housed in a former industrial building of the Société Française factory, a historic site of the town. Until 1995, this company produced renowned agricultural machinery: traction engines, threshing machines and Société Française Vierzon tractors, later public works equipment. The museum lies between the railway station and the Canal de Berry, close to the town centre.
Its collections trace the industrial history of the town in the 19th and 20th centuries. A first area is devoted to the fire arts and to clothing manufacture: porcelain from local manufactories, Denbac flamed stoneware, glassware and pieces made by glassworkers known as “bousillés”, as well as clothing from garment workshops.
A second section is devoted to the railway, which reached Vierzon on July 20, 1847. It relies largely on the donation of Raymond Laumônier, former head of the Vierzon depot: tools, lamps, drawings, posters, scale models, mock-ups and an HO layout. Finally, the museum presents Vierzon, the French capital of agricultural machinery, with several machines. Short films from the Memoviv industrial memory project are screened. The museum holds the “Musée de France” label.
