Temporarily closed (expected until 2028). The museum’s historic building is closed to the public. A museum exhibition is on show at the Maison du terroir beaujolais (24 place de l’Hôtel de Ville), with free admission. The museum plans works in its storerooms in 2027 and reopening around 2028.

About the museum

The Musée Marius Audin is a municipal institution in Beaujeu that holds the “Musée de France” label. It was founded by Marius Audin in the early 1940s and opened in 1943. It holds around 10,000 works that document the history of Beaujeu and the Beaujolais: graphic arts, geology, folk arts and traditions.

The collections tell the story of the region in all its facets, from Mont Saint-Rigaud to the Saône valley, from the vineyards to the forests. They include, for example, prints, a winegrower’s sulphur sprayer, conscript’s walking sticks (cannes de conscrits) and an embroidered alphabet primer (abécédaire) from the early 20th century.

The historic building is currently closed to the public. The museum’s project rests on three poles: storerooms partly accessible to the public in the historic building (works planned for 2027, opening hoped for around 2028), an exhibition renewed in three-year cycles at the Maison du terroir beaujolais, and off-site activities.
