About the museum
The association Musée des tramways à vapeur et des chemins de fer secondaires français, known as MTVS, was founded in 1976 as a non-profit association. Its administrative headquarters are still at the town hall of Butry-sur-Oise in the Val-d'Oise.
Its aim is to restore historic railway equipment and then to preserve and operate, for tourism, a secondary railway line in the Oise. The visitor site is now at Crèvecœur-le-Grand station, where the Train à Vapeur du Beauvaisis runs between this station and the Rotangy halt.
The collections include steam locomotives, diesel vehicles, passenger carriages and railcars. Volunteers restore this equipment and run it; ongoing restoration projects concern, among others, a passenger carriage from the Jura, a saloon car from the Menier chocolate factory and two locomotives supported by friends' clubs.
The site also offers an exhibition on seaside trains and a shop. The train can be hired for groups or events.
