About the museum
The Musée archéologique de l'Oise opened in 2011 in Vendeuil-Caply, about 400 metres from the Gallo-Roman theatre. It is the only visible element of an ancient settlement of about 130 hectares, identified through aerial photographs, field surveys and excavations carried out since the 1950s. The modern building has a green roof and geothermal heating and meets high environmental quality standards (HQE).
The museum is run by the Communauté de communes de l'Oise picarde. It preserves and presents finds from the site and the region, from prehistory to the Middle Ages. Many objects come from donations by private individuals or loans from other museums.
The permanent route is organized around daily and funerary life in the region, the Gallo-Roman town of Vendeuil-Caply and the Clos de Vendeuil site, which dates from the early Middle Ages. Every year from February, a new temporary exhibition presents research results and archaeological methods.
