About the museum
The museum’s collection was built up by Father Raoul des Cilleuls (1924–2010), parish priest of Mours for about twenty years and a keen art lover. From his seminary days he sought to rescue the liturgical objects neglected in the rural churches of the region. Installed in Mours-Saint-Eusèbe in 1965, he already had a major collection of liturgical linen, which he enriched through gifts and deposits.
In 1982, a team helped him display some of these pieces in the church. The museum is housed in the former Romanesque church of Notre-Dame. In 1986, an association governed by the 1901 law was created to conserve and protect the collections and inform the public; it works under the scientific responsibility of the Conservation du patrimoine of the Drôme.
The collections comprise more than 30,000 objects from the 14th to the 20th century: religious gold and silverwork, liturgical textiles, popular devotional objects and printed matter. They include monstrances, ciboria, missals, chasubles and dalmatics, as well as boatmen’s crosses from the Rhône.
