About the museum
The museum grew out of a private collection begun in the 1970s by Yvan Quercy. He was looking for a carriage for his son and bought an old hearse. As horse-drawn hearses became obsolete, many towns gave him theirs, and the collection grew to more than a hundred vehicles.
One of his sons, also named Yvan, now welcomes visitors and maintains the vehicles, since the death of his father in 2006. The museum is located at the locality of Minguet, in Cazes-Mondenard, in the Tarn-et-Garonne department.
The collection consists mainly of horse-drawn hearses from the 17th to the 20th century, some with embroidered black hangings. It also includes funeral objects such as shrouds, crosses and lanterns of the dead, and 19th-century horse-drawn vehicles: carts, carriages, livestock wagons and farm equipment. Notable pieces include a royal state carriage of 1750, part of which is original, and a large Spanish model from the 1920s.
