About the museum
The Musée du Costume d’Avallon occupies a 17th- and 18th-century mansion that once belonged to the de Condé family. The building has twelve rooms decorated with furniture and paintings of the period.
The museum’s principle is to renew its exhibition on clothing and fashion every year. Around a hundred historic pieces are shown, accompanied by old photographs, covering more than 150 years of costume history.
Visits are by guided tour only. The 2026 season is devoted to 1920s fashion, with short, low-waisted dresses embroidered with pearls, cloche hats and colorful silk lingerie, illustrating the new silhouette of the garçonne.
