About the museum
The museum is dedicated to Émile Guillaumin, born in Ygrande in 1873 and died in 1951. He described himself as a peasant writer and was the first to describe and defend the cause of the peasantry in his writings. He was also known as the Sage of Ygrande.
As a trade unionist, mutualist and agricultural journalist, he worked to improve the living conditions of people who worked the land.
The route presents his work and the everyday life of the period. An audiovisual room and a sound system playing readings from the writer’s texts complement the visit, and a waymarked walk through the countryside follows in his footsteps.
