About the museum
The Musée Eugène-Carrière is located in Gournay-sur-Marne, the painter's birthplace, in a 19th-century house. It is run by volunteers of the Société des Amis d’Eugène Carrière, an association founded in 1992 under the patronage of Michel Carrière, the artist's grandson.
The initial collection comes from this grandson's archives and has been enriched through purchases and donations. It holds around 120 drawings, personal belongings of the painter including his field easel, more than 100 signed first editions from his library, paintings, all of his posters, lithographs and etchings, letters, testimonies from pupils of the Académie Carrière, and glass-plate photographs of his family and studio.
Each season, the museum presents an exhibition devoted to Carrière or to his era. The 2026–2027 season, from September 20, 2026 to March 21, 2027, highlights his photographic collection. The museum is open from September to March and also offers guided tours, workshop visits for young people and a lecture programme.
