About the museum
The museum is at 15 rue Raymond Tellier in Montargis, in a building more than 300 years old. The people’s government of the Chinese province of Hunan bought it in June 2015. After the building was renovated and the exhibition designed, the museum was officially opened on August 27, 2016.
The building has three floors and an attic. Its ground area is 173 m² and its total area 421 m², of which 320 m² are reserved for the exhibition. The museum presents itself as a public cultural venue and aims to foster exchange and understanding between China and France.
The exhibition traces the history of the Travail-Études movement of Chinese student-workers in France in the 1920s, with particular emphasis on the activities in Montargis of students from Hunan. It has four sections: L’appel du temps, La recherche de la vérité, Les piliers de l’orient and L’amitié éternelle. The association Amitié Chine-Montargis, founded in 2001, maintains the cultural ties between the town and China.
