About the museum

The museum is in the town hall building in the heart of the village, about 1.5 km from the castle car park. It shows part of the finds unearthed since 1964 during excavations on the castle mountain.

The display cases hold a significant group of arrowheads linked to the siege of 1243-1244, along with everyday objects such as jugs, knives, coins, dice and belt buckles. Models trace the castle's development, and panels explain Catharism in the Ariège.

The castle site and the museum are run directly by the commune of Montségur. The castle entrance ticket also gives access to the museum; the museum can also be visited on its own with a separate ticket.

Parking available

There are two car parks near the village. Car park P2, at the south exit of the village towards Bélesta, takes coaches and motorhomes; motorhomes may not park in car park P1.

The museum is in the town hall building, about 1.5 km from the castle car park, and a path links the castle with the village. For coaches, the commune recommends arriving via Lavelanet rather than Bélesta.
