About the museum

The museum is in Payns, in the Seine valley, on the former fief of Hugues de Payns, founder and first grand master of the Knights Templar. It presents the Payns commandery, described as the first one established in the West.

The collections include models, a light-table map, a figure, archaeological remains and iconographic documents. A coin hoard discovered in 1998 is among the subjects presented, alongside the mysteries of the Templars.

A fictional documentary film, “Hugues de Payns, le premier Templier”, is screened in the museum.
