About the museum

The museum opened in 1982 thanks to the donation of Anatole and Renée Jakovsky, who had assembled a large collection of naïve art. It occupies the Château Sainte-Hélène, a former residence of the perfumer François Coty, surrounded by a park planted with rare trees. It celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2022.

The collections comprise about 3,000 works from some thirty countries, including a deposit from the Centre Pompidou. The circuit presents naïve art from the 18th century to the present day, featuring Le Douanier Rousseau, Bauchant, Bombois, Vivin, Séraphine, Rimbert and Generalić, as well as Croatian, Haitian and Brazilian painters. A second section is devoted to art brut and arts singuliers, with works by Gaston Chaissac, Auguste Forestier, Anselme Boix-Vives and Danielle Jacqui, among others.

The museum offers guided tours, workshops and family activities, and holds the Famille Plus label.
