About the museum
The museum is named after Josèphe Jacquiot, a historian of medals, founder of the museum, former mayor of Montgeron (1945–1947) and honorary curator of the Cabinet des médailles at the Bibliothèque nationale. It opened to the public in 1993 in a property from the early 19th century, set between courtyard and garden, with a dovecote and a park.
Four collections are presented there: the local history of Montgeron, a collection of Egyptian antiquities (stelae, necklaces, coffin panels), contemporary medals and prints, and the memory of the Egyptologist Étienne Drioton, former director-general of the Service des antiquités d’Égypte, with his objects, documents and archives. The collections also include works by painters of the Yerres valley, Far Eastern art, religious art and rare books.
For safety reasons, the museum, located on the second floor, is open only during the exhibitions held on the first floor of the Jean-Hardouin centre. It also organises lectures and guided tours.
