About the museum
Jean Dubuffet created the foundation himself to protect his work and to keep an important ensemble of his works together and accessible to the public. The statutes were signed on August 9, 1973, and the foundation was recognized as being of public utility on November 22, 1974. Dubuffet chaired it until his death in 1985.
The foundation is based at two sites: Périgny-sur-Yerres in the Val-de-Marne, where its head office is located, and the 6th arrondissement of Paris, where its secretariat is based. Its initial endowment includes the Closerie Falbala, a monumental ensemble listed as a historic monument, the equipment for the performance Coucou Bazar and the artist’s architectural models.
The collections, enriched by donations, a bequest from his daughter Isalmina Dubuffet and purchases, comprise more than 2,500 works: paintings, sculptures, models, gouaches, drawings and prints. In Périgny, former sculpture studios have been converted into exhibition rooms. The Closerie is currently being restored, and several phases of work are planned until 2030. Visits are only possible by reservation.

Not all buildings are accessible to visitors with reduced mobility; the foundation is studying access changes for the museum and the former sculpture studios. The surroundings of the Closerie Falbala are accessible, but not the very uneven ground around the Villa Falbala, whose historic monument status rules out any changes.
