About the museum

The museum is devoted to Lillebonne as it was about 2,000 years ago, under the name Juliobona. The town held an important place in the region at the time, at the crossroads of land, sea and river routes.

Its inhabitants left many traces of their daily lives. The theater-amphitheater opposite the museum is the best preserved in northern Gaul. Smaller objects, such as those from the tombs of Marcus and Domina, are also remarkable.

The collections show what is known about this ancient town and what remains to be understood. Archaeologists continue to study them, and excavations in the town are ongoing. The museum belongs to Caux Seine agglo; it is currently closed for works.
