About the museum
The museum is housed in the Saint-Nicolas chapel at Bonnebos, built in 1694 and listed as a historic monument. It was part of the seigneurial estate of the Le Fort family, of which a dovecote and a neighboring arboretum also remain. The departmental museum opened in 1979 to keep alive the memory of the liberators.
It displays nearly 500 objects and documents, including photographs, letters and posters, that bear witness to resistance fighters and deportees from the department. It also pays tribute to the Maquis Surcouf, founded by Robert Leblanc and described as the most active resistance network of the former Haute-Normandie region.
