About the museum
The municipal museum of Moret was founded in 1924 on the initiative of the mayor Florentin Renondeau. It first moved into a room of the former town hall, then into the town hall itself, and received numerous gifts from private individuals between 1924 and 1935.
After a period of inactivity, the collections were restored. In 1986 the first floor of the former school on the Place de Samois was renovated and began hosting art exhibitions. The new museum opened there on March 25, 1990.
The collections exceed 1,400 objects and cover archaeology, local history and fine arts, with paintings and sculptures by artists linked to the region. The museum has held the “Musée de France” label since 2003. A new permanent exhibition opened on March 22, 2024 to mark its centenary.
