About the museum

The museum was created by local scholars and residents of the village of Minerve. It brings together many fossils collected by Jean Miquel de Barroubio and presents human presence in the Cesse and Brian valleys and across the Minervois since prehistory.

The display cases show Paleolithic flint tools, Neolithic pottery and ornaments from the region's dolmens. Everyday objects, from the time of the Gauls to that of the Visigoths, along with 17th-century ceramics and glassware, complete the route.

On the upper floor, an exhibition traces the excavations carried out during the restoration of the ramparts. Archaeological work in Minerve has shed light on the history of a site occupied for more than 6,000 years. The museum recently joined the Musées Occitanie network, which is gradually completing its information.
