About the museum
The Naïa Museum opened in April 2015 in Rochefort-en-Terre, in Morbihan. The town had bought the château in 2013, and in 2015 the mayor proposed that two artists, the painter and draftswoman Manu Van H and the metal sculptor Patrice “Pit” Hubert, create a museum there. Its name is an acronym of “New Academy of Imaginary Arts” and also refers to Naïa, a legendary witch said to have lived in the ruins of the château.
The museum is in the château grounds. The route passes through the former studio of the American painter Alfred Klots, who rebuilt the château at the start of the 20th century, then a garden surrounded by medieval ruins, and finally an underground room dating from the 13th century.
The venue presents around 250 works by about a hundred international artists working in fantastic art, visionary art, dark art, pop surrealism and art singulier, grouped under the name “arts of the imaginary”. The permanent collection has around fifty works, and more than 200 pieces are offered for sale. The museum is run by a limited liability company (SARL) and takes part every year in off-site exhibitions at festivals. It offers several visit formats: self-guided, family playful visit, escape game and group tours.
