About the museum

The museum grew out of the passion of a couple of collectors who had been scouring flea markets across Europe since the late 1960s. Lacking space for their finds, they looked for a building in Charente and found one in 1995: a former school from the late 19th century in the center of the village of Archingeay.

After almost three years of renovation, the museum opened on June 14, 1998. It presents several thousand Belle Époque objects: old kitchen utensils, enamelware from several countries, antique toys, miniatures, fashion, household curiosities and a collection of lithographed tin boxes from 1880 to 1930.

The route is a lively presentation in twelve scenes that introduce the family of Lisette around 1900. Riddles invite visitors of all ages to look closely at the details of each scene.
