About the museum
The museum goes back to Hans Krüger of Rüdesheim, who bought his first Vespa in 1950, later successfully competed in off-road and road races, won German and European titles in Vespa sport and co-founded the Vespa Veteranen Club Deutschland in 1988. Together with his wife Elisabeth, he opened in Kettenbach in 1979 what claimed to be the first collection of its kind in Germany.
In the years that followed, the collection had to move several times; most recently it was on display on loan in a car museum in Aschaffenburg until that closed and the scooters were put back into storage. Since summer 2010, the Krüger family has housed its scooters on several floors of a former kindergarten in Kaub on the Middle Rhine and has continued to run the museum since the founder's death in 2003.
The focus is on Vespa models, but other brands such as Maico, Heinkel and Moto Guzzi are also represented. Special items include a very flat scooter of the British paratroopers from 1943 and an Indian Bajaj Chetak model. Around 120 scooters are on display, and about 60 more are kept in storage. The family also lends vehicles for exhibitions, film and television appearances or decoration purposes, and arranges spare parts and accessories for vintage scooters.
On its website, the family states that the museum will remain closed until further notice; new information is to be announced there.
