About the museum
In May 1884 Theodor Fontane spent several weeks at the summer retreat Hankels Ablage on Lake Zeuthen, today a district of Zeuthen. There he completed the draft of his novel "Irrungen, Wirrungen" and wove the place into the plot.
For the hundredth anniversary of this stay, the permanent exhibition was set up at the former Institut für Hochenergiephysik (Institute for High Energy Physics), today's DESY site in Zeuthen. It is located in the canteen of the research center, the former Etablissement Käppel. In several display cases it shows the history of Hankels Ablage and the ways in which the place was portrayed in literature, as well as insights into Fontane's life and work and into the work of the Theodor-Fontane-Kreis Zeuthen (Theodor Fontane Circle).
