Automobil- und Spielzeugmuseum Nordsee
Private vintage car and toy museum in Norden-Norddeich with over 150 cars and motorcycles, advertising, and toys on 2,000 m².
About the museum
The museum goes back to the collecting passion of a family originally from Swabia: Michael Klein of Stuttgart opened it in the early 2000s in the Norden district of Norddeich. At first, automobiles and two-wheelers of all kinds were the focus; gradually old advertising signs, staged scenes, and toys were added. In 2010 the Bistro Boxengasse opened in the building.
After Michael Klein's death in August 2020, his son Ferdinand took over management. Today the museum is one of the largest privately run car museums in northern Germany and a member of the Verband Deutscher Museen für Auto, Motor und Technik. On about 2,000 square meters, more than 150 cars and motorcycles can be seen – from vintage cars and youngtimers to mopeds and curiosities such as celebrity vehicles.
The collection is divided into themed areas, for example on the American dream, the history of rally sport, 100 years of motorcycle history, and the VW Beetle. A separate department shows 20th-century toys from dollhouses and teddy bears to model cars, another shows ships in bottles; there is also an exhibition on the GDR. Many vehicles are not just exhibits but are used at vintage car meetings, trade fairs, and rallies. The museum is also a meeting place for clubs and hosts vintage car and biker meetings itself.
