Bauernmuseum Schlepzig

Farmstead from 1818 in the Lower Spreewald with a furnished farmhouse, barns, bakehouse and farm machinery illustrating everyday life of Spreewald farmers.

Opening hoursAdmission €3.50

About the museum

The farmstead in the Spreewald village of Schlepzig once belonged to the village mayor: in 1818 he received the farm together with fields and woodland as a fief from the hand of the Prussian king Frederick William III. The ensemble of farmhouse, stable barn, field barn, bakehouse and horse stable has been completely preserved to this day.

The farm was placed under heritage protection in 1960 and has been open to visitors as a museum since 1985. It is run by the municipality of Schlepzig. The museum sees itself as the only museum of the Lower Spreewald and is devoted to the relationship between people and nature in the Spreewald landscape.

In the farmhouse with its Altenteil (retirement quarters), the kitchen, parlours and bedrooms are furnished as if the residents had just stepped out; part of the attic houses an exhibition on agriculture, customs and traditions. The former cowshed deals with flax processing, linen and laundry care, while the barn covers forestry, beekeeping and fishing as well as means of transport. Tractors and farm machinery complete the tour, which also includes a herb garden, a haystack and the large courtyard lime tree.

In addition to the self-guided tour, the museum offers guided tours, spinning and weaving courses, and baking demonstrations in the old clay oven.
