First solo exhibition in Germany by the Danish female artist duo, featuring the film "Drainpipe Dreams" about excavated finds at the Masters' Houses and an expansive pipe installation on the Raumbühne (spatial stage).
Exhibition for the festival marking the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Bauhaus Building, relating its inauguration in 1926 to its reopening in the GDR in 1976.
About the museum
The Bauhaus Museum Dessau was built to mark the centenary of the Bauhaus's founding. An open international competition with 831 entries was won at the end of 2015 by the young Barcelona firm addenda architects. On the edge of the Stadtpark in central Dessau, they created a "house within a house": a seemingly floating concrete block about 100 meters long inside a glass shell. The museum opened in September 2019.
The upper floor holds the daylight-free "Black Box," which rests on just two stair cores and offers ideal climate conditions for fragile objects across some 1,500 square meters. The open first floor serves as a stage for temporary exhibitions, events and play areas for families.
The collection of the Stiftung Bauhaus Dessau on display goes back to an initial purchase of 148 works in 1976, when the Bauhaus Building reopened in the GDR as a scientific and cultural center. With around 49,000 objects today, it is the second-largest Bauhaus collection in the world. Its profile is shaped less by famous design icons than by student work, class notes, designs and workshop prototypes – and so the permanent exhibition "Versuchsstätte Bauhaus" tells the story of learning, experimenting and working at the school. Since the opening, more than 3,000 donated objects have been added.
