Retrospektive – 10 Jahre BrezelMuseum

For its anniversary, the museum brings together works from all previous special art exhibitions and adds new pretzel creations, for example by Jürgen Roesner and the Brezel Queen.

About the museum

The Brezelmuseum (pretzel museum) goes back to the Huober family, whose bakery in Erdmannhausen has been making lye pretzels since 1950. Karl Huober, who had run the business since 1980, developed the idea for a museum starting in 2013. It opened in the summer of 2016, the year the municipality celebrated its 1,200th anniversary.

The museum is housed in the rooms of the first bakehouse, which company founder Emil Huober set up on Badstraße; the historic bakehouse is part of the tour. The exhibition looks at the pretzel as a guild emblem, a religious symbol and an everyday baked good, recounts legends about its origins and traces the path from craft to industrial production. A theater room links the subject to questions of agriculture and nutrition.

Since opening, the museum has regularly held special exhibitions in which artists explore the pretzel shape, such as Jürgen Roesner, Lisa Moll and the "Brezel Queen". In 2025/2026 an exhibition was devoted to 75 years of the Huober company. For its tenth anniversary in July 2026, a retrospective was created featuring works from all previous special exhibitions. In fall 2024 the museum welcomed its 30,000th visitor. Across the street is a playground with a large climbing pretzel.
