BENTLEY – das beste Auto seiner Klasse

Cars spanning about a century tell the story of the British luxury brand, from its Le Mans victories in the early years to today's models.

About the museum

Central Garage is a privately run car museum in Bad Homburg's business park on Niederstedter Weg. Its name recalls the auto repair shop run by the Jäger family, which operated in downtown Bad Homburg from the early 20th century and later became an Opel dealership. In the family's former dealership, an industrial building from the early 1990s, a group of classic car enthusiasts led by founder Dieter Dressel set up the museum in 2007.

Across some 700 square meters on two levels, the museum has no permanent collection; instead it stages themed exhibitions that usually run for a year. The first, in 2007, was devoted to motorcycles by the Bad Homburg brand Horex; later shows covered DKW, Frankfurt's Adlerwerke, Porsche, Tatra, 150 years of Opel, British vehicles, BMW, movie cars, Glas automobiles and classic two-wheelers, among others. The vehicles are presented in staged settings and complemented by photos, texts, media and original objects from the world of gas stations and repair shops.

Since 2010 the nonprofit association "Freunde der Central Garage" has run the exhibitions. The museum charges no admission; visitors' donations are passed on to social and cultural causes in the region. In 2015 a reconstructed Gasolin gas station was added on the outdoor grounds, with an original postwar attendant's booth and an attached workshop; in 2016 a classic car magazine honored it as Restoration of the Year. The museum is also a meeting point for the regional classic car scene and serves as the start and finish of rallies.
