About the museum
The Heimatmuseum Seulberg opened in 1972, after the first collections had come together in 1968 for the village's 1,200th anniversary. The Friedrichsdorf history society was founded in 1969 and helps support the collection. The museum is regarded as the largest local history museum in the Taunus.
It occupies the former school and town hall of 1779 in the centre of Seulberg, the oldest district of Friedrichsdorf, opposite the Protestant church. The permanent exhibition spreads across three floors on around 400 square metres; an extension provides space for changing special shows.
The focus is on crafts and everyday life in times past, especially pottery, which was an important trade in the 17th century with 16 resident master potters. Other themes include Roman settlement traces and the witch persecution of 1652 to 1654. The goblin Sulinchen accompanies children through several stations.
