About the museum
In 1965, Christine Brückner bought a terraced house in the Gartenstadt Auefeld, a housing estate in Kassel built between 1955 and 1960 and now a listed monument. Two years later, her second husband, the writer Otto Heinrich Kühner, moved in with her from southern Germany. Until her death in 1996, the two lived and wrote in the modest house at Hans-Böckler-Straße 5.
The couple had already founded the Brückner-Kühner Foundation in 1984. In 1997, it set up its office in their former home. The living and working rooms have been preserved largely as the two left them and, as a memorial site and small literature museum, give a direct impression of the daily life of a writer couple; many details are familiar from Brückner's autobiographical texts.
The house also holds the Komische Bibliothek (Comic Library) with the works of the winners of the Kassel Literature Prize for Grotesque Humour, which the foundation awards together with the City of Kassel. The couple's literary estate has been in the Kassel City Archive since March 2026. With salons, readings in the series “Auf weiter Flur” and an audio walk through the Aue, the foundation keeps the house alive as a literary venue.
