About the museum
The collection of the Badenhausen museum goes back to preparations for the village's 1000-year celebration: from 1965 old objects and documents were gathered, and in 1968 a first exhibition took shape in the gymnasium. Because the collection grew so large, the idea of a small museum arose. Initially the items were stored in the attic of today's Oberschule, and many lenders collected their objects again.
After the 1972 municipal reform, several rooms in the former town hall, the so-called Alte Schule, became available. Five of them could be used for a museum. There, with great volunteer effort, the collection was rebuilt, processed and archivally recorded.
In March 1987 the Heimat- und Geschichtsverein Badenhausen (local heritage and history association) was founded; it has since supported the museum financially and with staff. The association also preserves knowledge of village history, such as the chronicle of the fire brigade, and works with the Oberschule Badenhausen.
