Dorfmuseum Lunow

Village museum under the roof of the Protestant kindergarten in Lunow on the Oder, with everyday objects and local history, plus the Café Goldrand in summer.

About the museum

The Lunow village museum grew out of a collection drive: in December 1996, a six-person team began gathering historic objects and documents as part of a job creation measure (Arbeitsbeschaffungsmaßnahme). Many villagers supported the project. The attic of the Protestant kindergarten proved almost ideal for displaying the objects; the museum opened in September 1997.

The holdings now comprise around 7,000 objects and about 1,000 photos from past decades, including clothing, eel traps, kitchen utensils and strollers. The museum offers insights into everyday life in a village on the Oder and into the history of earlier generations; descendants of Lunow residents who emigrated to New Zealand and school classes from Angermünde have also been guests.

The house is run by the Lunower Heimat- und Museumsverein e. V., which also cultivates the local dialect and publishes a Low German dictionary. In the courtyard and in the former stables of the kindergarten, the volunteer-run café "Goldrand" has been open during the summer months since 2008; on the first Sunday of Advent there is a small Advent market.
