About the museum
The museum's collection goes back to 1980, when a room in the attic of the old village school was set up for documents and old everyday objects from the households of the municipality. As the collection grew quickly, it later moved into the municipality's new administration building, which was dedicated at the end of 1990. There, an archive room in the basement was established first, and from the mid-1990s a first exhibition room under the roof, which the municipality presented at an open house day.
In 2000, a second attic was added, and the museum has since occupied the top floor of the administration building. To secure its future, 24 citizens founded the Heimatverein Schacht-Audorf on March 25, 1999; the association runs the museum on a volunteer basis and offers lectures, guided tours, and an autumn event under the motto "Weest du noch?" ("Do you remember?").
On display are small and large exhibits that document everyday life in the village as it changed over time. Besides the museum, the association maintains an archive of documents, newspaper reports, and historical photographs; the objects are digitally catalogued and made publicly accessible via the digiCULT museum portal.
