About the museum
The Museen im Kulturzentrum combine two museums under one roof, the three-winged Baroque complex of the Hohes Arsenal on Paradeplatz in Rendsburg. The Printing Museum (Druckmuseum) is on the first floor of the west and north wings, and the Historical Museum Rendsburg is on the second floor. The city of Rendsburg is the sponsor.
The Historical Museum grew out of the local history museum in the Old Town Hall and looks back on a collection history of more than 120 years. It shows the development of the fortress and garrison town, from Danish fortification work through the Prussian period to the stationing of Bundeswehr and NATO units.
The Printing Museum was founded from the mid-1970s on an initiative of printing businesspeople from Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg. On about 600 square meters, it shows the technical and social development of typesetting and printing over the last 200 years. The letterpress machines are fully operational and are run by volunteer printers and typesetters during demonstrations.
The museum café in the entrance area and a special exhibition room on the second floor link the two museums.
