About the museum
The museum of 1. FC Kaiserslautern tells the story of the club, which began in 1900 – from the founding years through the era of Fritz Walter and the championships of the 1950s to the successes and setbacks of recent decades, including the league title as a newly promoted side in 1998.
The starting point was the 2011 exhibition "work in progress", designed as a walk-in call for contributions from fans and eyewitnesses; an extension followed in 2012. Since then a volunteer museum team under curatorial direction and with the support of the supporters' association Initiative Leidenschaft e.V. has been collecting jerseys, photos, documents and memorabilia. Since 2022 the permanent exhibition has been gradually reorganised and supplemented with new sections.
The rooms are on the first floor of the east stand of the Fritz-Walter-Stadion on the Betzenberg. Highlights include replicas of the DFB Cup and the German championship trophy. On tours following the principle "fans guide fans", the guides combine the club's history with their own experiences. The museum belongs to the network of German-language football museums and shows parts of its collection online at museum-digital.
