About the museum
The fire brigade museum in Nübel goes back to a private collection that Kurt Hansen began assembling in 1960. It showed hand and motor syringes, breathing and resuscitation equipment, hoses, historical uniforms, orders and decorations, and documents, and illustrated the history of the fire brigade from about 1870 to 1945. At first it was housed in an annex on Gaarlandstraße and opened by arrangement.
After a period of closure, the museum has been run since autumn 2025 by the association Feuerwehrmuseum Kurt Hansen Nübel-Schaalby e.V. The association shows the collection in the Dörfergemeinschaftshaus (village community center) on Küsterstraße and opens it on the first Sunday of every month. At the Day of Small Museums in August 2025, 32 guests came, many of them with a fire brigade background.
The exhibition shows the development of fire protection from the fire bucket to the tanker fire engine. Topics include firefighting, breathing protection, alarm technology and fire brigade sports. There are guided tours for individual visitors and groups, as well as offers for school classes.
