About the museum
The fishery museum has been housed since 1999 in the historic fish house of Neuhaus near Adelsdorf, in the middle of the pond system of the Barons von Crailsheim. The Hegegemeinschaft Unterer Aischgrund (fishery management association) reopened it on July 12, 2015. The building, with a half-timbered upper floor and tent roof, dates from the mid-18th century; the gabled roof extension dates from the 1950s. Such pond houses were used to monitor the ponds and as a secure storage place for nets and traps.
Inside, the exhibition shows pond equipment and angling gear on the left, and display cases on the right with specimens of the most important fish species of Middle Franconia. Visitors who want to test their knowledge can try a quiz on the specimens. Since 2022, the museum has been part of the TeichKulturPark (pond culture park).
From the fish house, an educational trail about 2 kilometers long with eleven information boards leads around the pond system and past the moated castle of the Crailsheim family. The castle was built between 1612 and 1618 from an older fortress; the pond system covers about 60 hectares of water surface.
