About the museum
The Kuratenhaus was built in 1916 on the initiative of a specially founded building association as the parsonage of the Heroldsbach parish, which it served until 1930. It was then used until 1977 as a retirement home and sisters' residence. After the building was added to the list of monuments in 2011, a general renovation began; it was completed in 2018 at a cost of around €1.2 million, and the opening followed in March 2020.
Since then the house has served as a cultural and community center for the western district of the Landkreis Forchheim. The ground floor has an event room, and outdoors there is a small open-air stage. The upper floor houses the municipality's Heimatkundliche Sammlung (local history collection), which previously could be seen only on special occasions in the attic of the fire station.
The permanent exhibition is divided into four rooms: the Kuratenhaus and World War I, trading, the Heroldsbach costume, and the spiritual and religious life of the village. A fifth room shows changing exhibitions with further pieces from the collection. Agricultural tools are displayed in a museum barn on the rear property.
